Group Convenor/co-ordinator for 31 years, Christine Lewis, appears here
with her father, the late JOHN HANSBERRY. John spearheaded the marketing
campaign for the opening of Roselands in 1965 after he left the position
of Sales Manager of Radio 2UE. He spoke to John Laws on talkback radio
every day about "What's on at Roselands". Did you know that Kamahl
launched his career at Roselands. Other crowd drawing appearances
included Gina Lolobrigida (seen below with John Hansberry at Roselands),
Robert Vaughan, Omar Shariff, Princess Soraya, The Village People, The
entire Ballet of Shanghai, Rock stars galore, Miss Universe parades
right down to local talent shows. John Hansberry created 'a home away
from home' for shoppers. He believed that
"a Centre should be more than just a place to spend money, after all people
can do that anywhere." The Community Groups were his idea.
